Creating Higher-Education Industry Programmes for the Semiconductor Industry of Europe

The CHIPS of Europe project (Creating Higher-Education Industry Programs for the Semiconductor Industry of Europe) addresses the labor shortage in the EU semiconductor industry. Over the next four years, industry and universities will collaborate to increase the appeal of degree programs and careers in the semiconductor sector.

The activities include:

  • Establishing a talent pipeline starting in secondary school to reduce lost potential
  • Updating curricula and micro-degrees to reflect current topics in chip design, manufacturing, and packaging
  • Interactive teaching and learning methods (e.g. summer schools in factories and virtual labs)
  • Increasing the proportion of female students in technical fields
  • Expanding the talent pool in Europe (academic partners from Africa)
  • Public outreach to promote a positive perception of semiconductors

The project is coordinated by the Munich University of Applied Sciences (HM), while ECPE is leading public relations efforts and ensuring the involvement of the entire ECPE network.
The Power Electronics Cluster is leveraging synergies and supporting the project. In addition, several project partners are key players in the network.

As part of this project, the well-attended cluster webinar “Virtual Education and Training in the Semiconductor and Electronics Industry” took place.
